New River Amenity from Addison Street to Irving Park Road
The 312RiverRun pedestrian and cycling trail is being constructed along the North Branch of the Chicago River and is scheduled to be completed by 2020. Phase 1 includes the Riverview Bridge, which will connect Clark Park (east of river) to California Park (west of river) by spanning the river just north of Addison. The bridge will be 1,000 feet long and Phase 1 is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. Phase 2 will extend the trail further north by linking California Park up to Horner Park by continuing under the new Irving Park Bridge (on the west side of the river), which is scheduled to begin construction in Fall 2018.
This $25.7 million project is funded from federal, state, and local sources. The concrete path on the bridge will be 10 feet wide (two 5 foot lanes in each direction) and feature railings with mounted LED Lighting fixtures. Other installations include new lighting under existing bridges and the installation of rip rap to protect the bridge and shoreline from breakwater. This trail will provide a great public amenity for area residents and all Chicagoans by further activating the riverfront and extending recreational connections.
